The Jackson County Tax Collector’s Office is responsible for the timely collection and disposition of real and personal property taxes within Jackson County. In addition, the Collector’s Office is responsible for the collection of taxes levied by the Town of Dillsboro, Village of Forest Hills,Town of Highlands and the Town of Webster. If you need tax information from the Town of Sylva, you may contact Amanda Murjada at 828-586-2719.

Mid-August - The current year tax bills are mailed to the "Owner of Record" as of January 1st. If the property was sold or transferred after January 1st then a transfer letter will be sent to the new owner stating they are now responsible  for the taxes due. Refer to your attorney's closing papers to ensure your obligation of taxes has been satisfied.

September 1st - Property taxes become due and payable.

January 6th - Property taxes become delinquent.

March 31st - This is the last day to pay taxes before the delinquency is advertised in The Sylva Herald.

April - Property tax delinquencies are advertised in The Sylva Herald.
