The Jackson County Veterans Office would like to annouce the upcoming Veterans events for this year. If you are a county employee who is a Veteran or you have family members who are Veterans we would like to invite you to take part in these wonderful events to honor and recognize our Veterans who served their country and Jackson County.

The first event will be the Smoky Mountain Veterans Stand Down coming up on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. located at the Robert C. Carpenter Community Building in Franklin, N.C. There will be vendors there and breakfast and lunch will be provided at not cost.

The second event in partnering with our Jackson County Senior Center will be our Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, November 10, 2016. It is free to any and all Veterans and their guests. Seating will be at 6:00 p.m. We will have a raffle along with music and entertainment. There is, however, only a number of seats available and you will need to make a reservation by calling the Jackson County Senior Center or Jackson County Veterans Office to reserve your seat(s).

The third event is the Annual Veterans Picnic on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 pm at the National Guard Armory. Veterans eat free and we ask that a $5.00 donation be given for any guest attending so the food may be replenished for next year's menu. BBQ and Beef Stew with all the fixings will be served this year. If you would like to volunteer to help serve or clean up, please contact the Jackson County Veterans Office.

Immediately following the Annual Veterans Picnic on Saturday, November 12, 2016 we will have our 2nd Annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown Sylva. If you would like to participate or would like to have an entry (Tractors, ATV's, Auto, Float, Marching Group, etc.), please let us know so we may get an entry form filled out for you. If you already have a family member or group in the parade, please come out and line the streets to show your support. The parade will start line-up at 1:30 p.m. at Mark Watson Park and will begin travel at 3:00 p.m. Refreshments and facilities will be available provided by the American Legion Post 104 during line-up.

The Jackson County Veterans Office, along with the Jackson County Senior Center, would like to thank all of our Veterans of Jackson County and surrounding counties and their families for their dedication, honor, and sacrafice to our country and to know that this is a special time of year to say thank you and welcome home!
