Welcome To Jackson County

Thanks for visiting Jackson County, a place of lofty peaks, rushing water and spectacular scenery. Our county contains or borders some 45 miles of the incomparable Blue Ridge Parkway and adjoins the Cherokee Indian Reservation, which boasts Harrah's Cherokee Casino as well as heritage attractions including the outdoor drama "Unto These Hills" and Oconaluftee Indian Village. Just past Cherokee is Great Smoky Mountains National Park and its half-million acres of unparalleled beauty.

Lakes, rivers and streams abound, and we're nationally known for the quality of our trout-fishing waters. Our Tuckaseigee River is viewed as a fly-fisherman's paradise, and beautiful mountain lakes along the river's East and West forks provide opportunities for boating and other outdoor recreation.

Complementing our natural setting are destinations such as picturesque downtown Sylva, historic Dillsboro and resort community Cashiers, all with great restaurants and unique shops. We're also recognized as a regional center of education and health care; our county is home to Western Carolina University, Southwestern Community College and Harris Regional Hospital.
